Rugged Stock Tank Liners FAQ

How long do the liners last?

Rugged Stock Tank Liners should last 6-8 weeks under normal wear and tear conditions.

Are the liners safe for horses?

When used and secured properly, the liners are safe for horses.

*Important Considerations*

  • The liners should not be used with foals or baby livestock. They are too curious!
  • The liners should not be used with horses or livestock that exhibit nervous behaviors like fence cribbing or stock tank nibbling.

Will my horse eat the liner?

In our experience, when most horses are first introduced to the liner, some will smell it and some may lip and lightly tug it. Once they explore and realize it cannot be eaten, they ignore it from then on and just focus on the water.

Some horses may be more aggressive and bite the liner at the edge by the lip of the stock tank. Out of this group of horses, most will become accustomed to the liner and begin to ignore the liner like above.

There are always some horses where this product simply is not compatible. If this is the case for you, shoot us an email to let us know what happened. We are always looking to ensure customer satisfaction.

One other thing to consider, if the stock tank runs completely dry, horses will likely pull at the liner in search of more water, or for attention, so keep make certain that the stock tank always has some water.

Can the liners be used with heaters?

Yes. The liner is made with LDPE which has a melting point above the boiling point of water, between 230-257 degrees Fahrenheit, which is a good deal higher than water in the stock tank will get with commercial off the shelf floating de-icers. It is important to consider that there are so many different types of heaters with varying options. For this reason, we ask you to use common sense, ALWAYS look for wear and tear on the heating device and cords and use your best judgement.
